About Me
Ben E. Lewis (1979 - ) is a writer, teacher, husband and pedant from Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
He wrote from a very early age, dipping into fantasy and science fiction alike (and has every last bit of school work and home doodling to prove it) but considers the guilt-driven psychological adventures of Patricia Highsmith's characters and the real-world-dismantling anarchy of Chuck Palahniuk to be two of his favourite inspirations.

In June 2019 he realised a long-standing ambition to circumvent the negative label of 'vanity publishing' and put out his first book "In the Shade of the Sun" through Amazon's KDP system. He followed up this once-in-a-lifetime achievement with the second novel in the Palmer and Evans series "In the Cool of the Moment" in November of that same year and third volume "In the Name of the Dark" in March 2020. Fourth instalment "In the Shallows of the Sea" came out in August 2020.

Breaking from tradition, he travelled back in time 22 years and reactivated a sci-fi epic he began writing in his teens which was published early in 2020 as the doorstep-alternative "The Persistent" (also available in five Tolkienesque volumes).
When he's not planning needlessly elaborate psychological crime trails across Europe, he's planning the holidays which inspire them. Oh, and lessons too. He's always planning lessons of course.

Palmer

In the Shade of the Sun
Palmer is in Lisbon, Portugal, looking for Celia Payne, who may or may not be dead and yet she has been sending him strange messages, a jolly postcard, an inappropriate birthday greeting and a hotel room key. Bruised and battered, Palmer takes to the sun-drenched cobbled streets in search of answers, hounded by a mysterious man who seems to know a lot more about Palmer than Palmer does of him. What answers, if any, will Palmer find, in the shade of the sun?

In the Cool of the Moment
Palmer has just arrived in Amsterdam to meet his former sidekick and sometime irritant, Stuart Evans, for a rather out of character bout of relaxation and bonding, but Stuart isn't there to meet him and knows nothing of the supposed invitation he made. Who or what has drawn them both to the dark and wintry waterways and just how satisfying can revenge be when it is served in the cool of the moment?

In the Name of the Dark
Palmer and Stuart are back together, this time both on holiday by choice in sunny Budapest. There are no mysteries to solve, no vengeful ghosts from the past, just a restful break in a beautiful city. At least, that was the plan...but Stuart has dug up a never-known cousin of Palmer's and with that comes the usual mistrust and paranoia and the makings of a mystery as they discover what things are done in the name of the dark...

In the Shallows of the Sea
Palmer and Stuart are taking a cruise together around the delights of the Baltic Sea. They are joined by an intriguing and perplexing group of fellow Britons and soon find their number is being whittled down by fate or fortune or someone's grim design. On top of this, both Palmer and Stuart have their own secrets on the trip and as they set sail from Germany to Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Denmark, will those reasons come to light and the mystery be solved? Will everyone's hidden depths be exposed in the shallows of the sea?

The Persistent
Never work with children or animals…or family…or drunkards…or computers…In fact, if given the choice, don’t work with anyone you remotely dislike or would certainly hate after spending years in isolation with them. If only Janine Roebuck had stuck to this sage advice and stayed at home. Maybe then the unfortunate chain of events leading to her being stranded out in no man’s space would never have come to pass...
